In the last month or so we have been asked some searching questions about Creative Social and the obvious male/female imbalance. You just need to look at the video of Creative Social San Francisco or pick up our latest book where only 4 of the authors are women to see we are still dominated by men. It would be easy to say that this is simply a reflection of the industry (as I have mistakenly done in the past) but this is lazy and quite frankly not good enough. The simple fact is that the industry would be better if we had a better gender balance across the business (especially at senior management level) and it is important that organisations like ours are doing our best to try and solve the issue.
Which to be fair we have been trying to do for a while now in the background (e.g. signing up to the SheSays 50:50 initiative and we were delighted to have our first all female speaker line up at CS Presents earlier this year) but I am delighted to announce the launch of our ‘Thelma & Louise’ award, an award allowing two up and coming female creatives to come and join us for Creative Social Bucharest, which runs between 20th and 21st November, for free (alas you will have to pay for flights and hotel but if there are any sponsors out there who want to cover this, please shout).
Basically if you are a talented female creative who is at ACD level or higher, all you need to do is send an e-mail to Elle (at) creativesocial.com, with a paragraph on why you think you should be coming and a link to your portfolio. And ideally a recommendation from a Social would be great (although not a requirement). These will be reviewed by co-founder of Creative Social, Mark Chalmers as well as fellow Socials Laura Jordan Bambach and Alessandra Lariu, who also just happen to be the founders of Shesays and myself.
We look forward to receiving your applications.
And if you have any suggestions for Creative Social, please feel free to get in contact – we would love to hear from you.
DEADLINE: FRIDAY 24th NOVEMBER 2014
